Plein air paintings are completed outside, on location, out in the open air. Painting en plein air challenges me by restricting my time, my materials, my subjects, and my format.
I paint regularly with my good friend Helen Turner, a pastel artist, and a varying group of other artists who enjoy being out painting in the Kauai breeze (or the blustering Kauai wind). Painting en plein air is very different than painting in the studio: en plein air, I am sitting in the sand on the beach, with surfers, dogs, and sunbathers, creating artwork with my friends.
