Mauka — the mountains paintings
Mauka means "to the mountains" in Hawaiian, and Kauai's dramatically eroded peaks are part of local legends and culture. The steep green slopes of Mt. Haupu, Nounou and Kalalea are beautiful landmarks on the east side. Mt. Namolokama on the north shore rises directly above the crescent of Hanalei Bay. And Waimea Canyon, on Kauai's west side, is a steeply eroded, winding network of valleys reaching down 3000 ft. from the mountain heights.
